A team from the TAS research group at IDSIA USI-SUPSI classified at first place in the prestigious Dalle Molle Award for the Quality of Life Label competition, with a project on artificial intelligence for autonomous wheelchairs.
This innovative project aims to enhance the quality of life for individuals with reduced mobility. By integrating advanced artificial intelligence technologies, the project seeks to develop autonomous wheelchairs assisted by drones, enabling safe navigation within complex environments. The team, led by Prof. Francesco Flammini, includes Alessandro Antonucci, Jerome Guzzi, Franca Corradini, and Carlo Grigioni.
The official announcement highlighted the high quality of the numerous proposals received, making the evaluation process particularly challenging. The “Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence for Autonomous Wheelchair” project stood out and was declared the winner for its visionary yet practical approach, opening new and exciting research avenues in line with the foundation’s objectives.
The award
The Dalle Molle Award for the Quality of Life Label is an annual competition recognizing innovative projects aimed at improving quality of life. Organized by the Dalle Molle Foundation, the award is judged by a panel of 4 to 7 members from scientific, journalistic, and cultural backgrounds.
